From the author: Installation: My Review:
This is the second map I've reviewed for the Quake 4 section of Doom Wad Station and I was, once again, extremely impressed. The author states that he spent 3 months putting this together and from the results I would say that he wasn't exaggerating. First, take a look at the level design - it is phenomenal. It is quite obvious right from the beginning that the author spent alot of time designing is environment. It seems that every bolt is in place, every pipe running its course. I was truly impressed by the level of detail here. I know it's difficult to make a 3d game such as Quake 4 look BAD but it is possible. Not only did the author of this mod make it look good but he made it look realistic, which is a real accomplishment. Gameplay was also quite good, with health, ammo - etc... finely balanced throughout the game. There were times when I thought for sure I was done for but I suddenly found JUST enough health and ammo to get my through. Now, I'm not going to say I'm the best player around - I'm not, but I feel my skillz aren't too shabby and this map kept me on my toes. Not only that but there WERE times where I was truly surprised by a creature which appeared in a place I was not expecting it. It isn't all good for the gameplay, however. I thought the map was too linear, which sort of detracted from the gameplay for me but even with that I couldn't put it down till I was finished. So I would say it's a real keeper. Also, there was a spot where I had to face off against not one but TWO heavy tanks. I was good through the first one - I rushed him with the railgun and pounded him into submission. Then the second one popped up and I found myself short on ammo and wondering what the hell to do because I kept getting fragged. I won't tell you how I escaped that nightmare but I did and without cheating. The ending was quite intense, not a let down at all compared to Ubilitus which rather was.
Overall I would say that the average Quake 4 marine is going to enjoy this immensely and won't be disappointed. The gameplay is tight and the design is phenomenal. Enjoy.
